Open source hardware innovation is the innovation resulting from communities of innovation practicing product and service development in an open source hardware fashion. That is where the building plans are rendered transparent, accessible to anyone to see, replicate or modify (Balka, et al., 2014). The plans refer to tangible, complex goods (mixing electronic, mechanical, textile components), labeled open by their surrounding communities. These communities can be external to firms, internal or mixed[1]
